Lessons
Lessons built around the music they love
Nearly 30 years of teaching has taught me one thing above all: students practise when they're playing music that matters to them. Everything else follows from that.
Private lessons
One-to-one weekly lessons in Ely and Cambridge. Twenty, thirty, forty-five or sixty minutes depending on age and level. Everything is built around what the student wants to play.
In-school lessons
I teach in primary and secondary schools across Cambridgeshire during the school day, so there's nothing extra to fit into your evenings. Ask your school music lead, or contact me and I'll tell you where I currently teach.
Adult beginners & returners
Plenty of my students are adults picking the guitar up for the first time or dusting one off after twenty years. No exams, no pressure — just the songs you've always wanted to play.
What we cover
Electric, steel-string acoustic or nylon-string classical — all three are welcome, and many students move between them. Lessons mix the music the student chooses with the technique and reading that makes everything else easier.
- Rock, pop, blues and indie
- Classical and fingerstyle
- Acoustic songwriting and strumming
- Riffs, solos and improvising
- Music reading, tab and theory
- Rockschool, Trinity and ABRSM grade preparation

How it works
Get in touch
Tell me the student's age, whether they've played before, and what they'd love to be able to play.
Trial lesson
A relaxed first lesson to see how we get on, work out the right starting point and make sure the instrument fits.
Weekly lessons
A regular slot, lesson notes and practice targets in your MyMusicStaff portal after every session.
Play for people
Grades if they want them, performances if they want them, and always songs they're proud to play to someone.
